The seven Baby Steps for Lowering your Stress Hormones (healing your mammal brain):

Step 1) Computer Brain: Thoughts

This part of the brain calculates and computes data, produces our thoughts, and labels things as good or bad. When in cahoots with the reptile brain it tends to label everything as not-quite-right, dangerous, or bad, and thereby raising stress hormones.

a) Practice observing your thoughts and being aware that they are in fact, just thoughts.

b) Become aware of the incessant nature of your thoughts.

c) Look for the spaces between your thoughts.

d) Don’t try to control or change or stop your thoughts, just observe them.

Focus on this step for 10 days before starting step 2. Perhaps do this during your meals, an easy way to get 1-3 hours in daily.
