Dr. John B. Campise, D.C. grew up in Fresno California as the fourth child of six. He graduated from San Joaquin Memorial High School with honors in 1995, having been the number one runner and team captain for the SJM cross-country team his Junior and Senior years.

In 1994, John received his 100 hours certificate of training from Clovis Adult School for the study and practice of Shiatsu/Acupressure therapy.

After high school, with a full tuition academic scholarship, John majored in Biology and minored in Religious Studies at Santa Clara University while running for the Broncos Division One cross-country team.

In 1997, John transferred to Life Chiropractic College West in Hayward California to begin his four year Doctor of Chiropractic degree program.

The chiropractic program at Life West is a very intense study of human anatomy (including one year of cadaver dissection), physiology, biochemistry, neurology, nutrition, radiology, pathology, microbiology, gerontology, pediatrics, biomechanics, obstetrics, embryology, blood, urine, and saliva laboratory assessment, and diagnosis of hundreds of diseases and conditions. Study and internship at the Life West public clinic included ten separate chiropractic adjusting techniques and hundreds of treatments to real patients with a broad spectrum of conditions. He graduated with honors in 2001.

Is Your House Toxic? Safer Solutions for a Clean and Healthy Home

Have you ever noticed that you get a headache when cleaning house? No, it’s not simply because you hate housekeeping. If you’re using typical household cleaners, the chemicals they contain could be harming your health.

According to the Environmental Working Group, chemicals found in household cleanersare linked to headaches, allergic reactions, respiratory problems, reproductive disorders, and even certain cancers — and that’s through normal use. Unfortunately, it’s not easy for consumers to find out exactly what’s in the products they buy, because manufacturers of cleaning products aren’t required to list all ingredients on their packaging. Even when a product is labeled “natural,” there’s no guarantee as to what’s inside. A product could include a naturally-sourced main ingredient while still incorporating small percentages of toxic substances, or its eco-friendly claims could pertain to the packaging, not the product itself.


Evolution: Why I personally like the theory (health)

Setting aside evidence, why do I like the theory of evolution?

I like it because it guides my ability to help patients improve their health, and overcome and prevent illness.

Three main theories exist in healthcare:

1) The God model: God or the supernatural created us without any clear instruction manual about how to stay healthy or overcome illness. Yes, religious texts give health advice, but without a clear picture, often with multiple contradictions, and lacking any unifying philosophy to guide us except (in the best case) that God said so, or (in the worst case) that illness is simply a tool of punishment that God applies to the wicked.


My iron poisoning nightmare

August, 2014

In early 2006, I moved to a house in the mountains that used a well for its water source. The toilets and sinks were stained orange from the high levels of iron in the well water. Plus the water happened to be acidic, leaching out the iron from the metal water pipes in the house, making the iron levels in the water even higher (according to the company who installed my iron filter later on). The water was orange coming out of the faucets for about 2 seconds, then it cleared up. The orange color got more intense after letting the water sit in the pipes overnight or after being away on a trip. Presumably the acidic water had more time to eat away at the pipe as it sat there longer.

The people who previously lived at the house had been there for 25 years, drinking the water. They were moving because the husband had developed Parkinson’s, so they were going to lower elevation to be closer to their daughter. The pine needle covered land the house sat on consisted of red soil (a sign of high iron levels). Pine needles make the soil acid, good for growing blueberries, but I guess maybe bad for turning well water acidic?

Last February I ran my first ultra-marathon. It was 32 miles long and climbed over 6,000 feet of elevation along the way! Needless to say it was very difficult. It took me about 9 hours to complete, which is not very fast compared to others but my goal was to finish it without any injuries and I accomplished that.

I ran a regular marathon (26 miles) in high school where I was in severe pain even lying down for about 12 hours after. And I was in severe pain while walking for about 6 days after that high school marathon!

Women have 2-5 times the risk of getting an autoimmune disease as men do.

Why? No one officially knows. But if we did know why, then wouldn’t we be one step closer to figuring out the cause of autoimmune disease in both men and women? And if we know the cause, then wouldn’t it be a lot easier to find the cure for autoimmune diseases?

Interesting things:

1) Women have lower vitamin D levels than men do.

2) Low vitamin D levels increase risk for autoimmune disease.

3) Women have 2-3 times higher risk of gall stone disease than men do.

4) Gall stones can affect the drainage of bile from the liver to the bowels.


The Real Origins of Original Sin and Insanity

How could someone do that? The question we all ask when we hear about a fellow human physically or sexually harming someone, especially when it happens to children.

The more enlightened will often then say, “well, they are just literally insane, a sane person couldn’t do that.”

But is insanity really what we think it is? Is it a chemical imbalance or a genetic defect or a birth defect? Or is it actually just normal animal behavior being expressed by a human?

For 2.5 million years human ancestors (Homo Habilis and Homo erectus) evolved into what is today known as humanity, and for 75% of the last 200 thousand years, fully human humans (homo Sapiens) roamed the grasslands of Africa. But prior to our 2.5 million year old homo ancestors, our even more distant lineage lived as land animals on the planet for 500 million years!

From this perspective our animal heritage is much more robust than our human nature.

Case study #1

Could we prevent cancer altogether?


The cover story in Popular Mechanics magazine sounded like curing cancer, and even PREVENTING cancer entirely was imminent! This is what I’ve been hearing from the vitamin D researchers for the past five years, with little public attention, maybe someone finally noticed that prevention is real and as simple as creating a mass D inoculation campaign! So I bought the magazine and read with great anticipation, hope, and excitement.

Why you shouldn’t go to the gym or use a trainer


Of course there’s nothing wrong with using the gym or trainers if you want to build muscles that burn sugar. But if you want to build muscles that burn fat, you need to take a different approach. And of course some trainers know how to do this properly, but very few.
(If you are a trainer and would like to learn how to help people build fat burning muscles the right way, contact me and I’ll be glad to teach you. If you complete my training successfully, I’ll gladly refer patients to you.)
First, let’s look at three of the arguments FOR using a trainer and lifting weights, and why these arguments are misguided:
1) You build more muscle which has a higher metabolic rate than other tissues, allowing you to burn more calories each day just by having more muscle mass.
2) Working out hard at a high heart rate causes an “afterburn” effect, raising your overall metabolism for many hours after the workout is over.
3) High Intensity Interval Training (“H.I.I.T.”: working out at maximal effort for short bursts) has lots of scientific studies that prove it is healthier and more effective than “aerobic” workouts.

CBD oil and Marijuana

Now that California voted to make marijuana legal for recreational use by those over 21, and now that CBD oil has surpassed its 1000th ailment cure claim, it’s time for me to write this article.

CBD oil is an extract from the marijuana plant that has no psychotropic properties but has medicinal qualities. And as you know, marijuana has medicinal qualities along with its well known psychotropic properties.

To be clear, Federal agents can still arrest you for even possessing marijuana in all 50 states, and CBD oil has just been classified by the Feds as a schedule 1 drug, meaning they can legally arrest you for possessing CBD oil now too.

Marijuana, like all plants, has chemical properties that can be used for food, medicine, fun, or poison. I consider it a powerful herb. CBD oil, I consider to be a medicinal herbal extract.


The cause and cure for jaw clenching and grinding

During most of the night, all of the muscles of the body should be limp except during brief times of turning over or moving to a new position (natural bed sore prevention). In fact, during the period of REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep, the entire body should be paralyzed except for the eye muscles.

If your jaw is clenching or grinding, you are certainly not paralyzed. Many things contribute to the tendency to clench and grind, but one thing above all else allows it to even happen in the first place: calcium deficiency.

Without enough calcium, muscles have a very difficult time relaxing. The best source of dietary calcium is greens, followed by veggies, nuts and seeds, and fruit. (Milk causes mucus in the gut which in some cases can actually prevent the absorption of calcium.)

There is a popular thought that if you drink alkaline water, it will make your body alkaline. Most people who have ailments have bodies that are too acidic. So some think therefore that the cure for illness is to make your body more alkaline and they think that alkaline water is the easiest way to do this. Many drink alkaline water who are not sick but are hoping to prevent future ailments, but it doesn’t work.



I recently had my first personal experience with vertigo, and oh my, it is a frightening experience! I have a new appreciation for the emotional severity of this condition, to say the least.

Those who suffer from vertigo know what I’m talking about. I used to place vertigo lower on the list of really bad conditions, I mean, there is no pain involved (unless you get injured from falling, or end up vomiting repeatedly), so how bad could it really be? Let me tell you, it is very bad.

I’m specifically talking about the type of vertigo I recently experienced: Benign positional vertigo (BPV). I woke up and felt fine. Then I got out of bed and immediately felt the room tumbling backwards and I sat/fell back onto my bed. I was moderately nauseous. The dizziness and nauseousness passed within 30 seconds, but as I sat there on my bed, I had an overwhelming feeling that it was going to happen again at any moment. So after several minutes, I slowly stood up and slowly walked into the bathroom, being careful not to move my neck or head anymore than absolutely necessary. As I carefully sat on the toilet, I felt a mild wave of nausea and dizziness. I thought that maybe if I just slowly kept getting ready for work, it would go away. No such luck. The more I moved around, the more easily I became dizzy and nauseous.

What supplements my kids should be taking.


Firstly, focus on a whole food diet void of junk food. Junk food can be rated on a scale from slightly bad to very bad, but any processed food can be considered junk food. Sugar and fried foods are very bad for you foods, brown rice and noodles are slightly bad for you foods. So put most of your efforts into keeping your kids away from the worst offenders. But if they have any health conditions like asthma, allergies, chronic ear infections, acne, and so on, then a completely strict whole food diet is a necessary step in the healing of these conditions. (Inhalers, medications, and antibiotics don’t heal these conditions, they only put out the fire until the next flare-up.) Cutting out all junk foods and eating only whole unprocessed foods can often clear up such conditions for good. If you think this is too difficult, then find a support group. There are hundreds of them full of parents in your situation, many of whom have been successful. You can flatten the learning curve by getting or reading the advice of these parents. Many of these groups can be found online.

Dentistry Part 2: What was underneath my crown, and other updates

So upon cutting off my “permanent” crown (that had been installed less than 2 months prior), a small amount of tooth decay was found in the underlying tooth! This could mean only one of three things: 1) the last dentist did not see the decay and so left it there accidentally, 2) the last dentist did not sterilize things well before gluing on the crown and so decay developed in the last two months due to operator error, or 3) … well, I just refuse to believe the third possibility…

My Dental Nightmare… Before you get another dental crown. A must read!

imagesI’m happy to report that I am currently doing very well dentally. However this was not the case for the past 7 months!

It all started last June when a molar that had an old filling in it cracked in half! And of course, my dentist was out of town. There was no pain, but both halves were still attached and I couldn’t chew on that side without food packing into the crack, spreading the tooth pieces apart. It was difficult to clean as you can imagine. I was at that time flying to Michigan every 2 weeks to help my chiropractor friend who had broken his back, so I had to get the tooth patched up before my plane left to go back to Michigan.

Optimal Health Diet:

Eat lots of veggies and greens with each meal,
eat good quality protein at eat meal.
Eat whole fruit or raw nuts/seeds between meals if you want a snack

Drink half body weight in oz of filtered water daily, but drink it mostly between meals. Don’t drink more than 4oz of fluids at a meal, this stresses the stomach by diluting digestive juices, prolonging food time in the stomach before it empties into the small intestine

Where oh where has my happiness gone?

Happiness is physiologic.
Mammal DNA codes for positive and negative emotions that correlate with survival probabilities.
In general, negative emotions due to poor survival circumstances motivate us to take actions to acquire something better, and positive emotions due to rich circumstances allow for either lazy actions (to keep things the same) or extra-curricular actions like playing.
Either way, happiness is pretty much guaranteed since there is a low level of happiness that creeps in during the actions taken (triggered by negative emotions) to improve one’s life (felt as hopeful anticipation).
Lack of food, shelter, sleep, and friendship all lead to negative emotions and tend to motivate us to attempt to acquire them.
In modern USA, 99% have plenty of calories, shelter, sleep, and friendship. Yet depression, anxiety, or just general unhappiness is rampant. Now there’s droves of people trying to “find” happiness. So what’s gone wrong? Have the old DNA rules on how to be happy been broken?

What to do About Dry Skin

For the last 10-20% of our history we wore clothes, but we still worked outdoors. Not until the industrial revolution did we begin to work mostly indoors.

Dr. Campise’s Recommendation for sunbathing:
1. Sunbathe 3-4 days per week for between 5 to 30 minutes, depending on your skin type.

The human body needs direct sunshine and lots of it for optimal health. Our ancestors lived outdoors without clothes for 80-90% of human history. For the last 10-20% of our history we wore clothes, but we still worked outdoors. Not until the industrial revolution did we begin to work mostly indoors.

Does Sunscreen Protect Me From Skin Cancer?

indexSkin cancer comes in two major types: life threatening and non-life threatening or melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSC), including basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). The newest evidence suggests that exposure to UVA light is the main cause of non-melanoma skin cancers. Whereas melanoma is not only caused by UVA exposure but by a lack of UVB exposure (a lack of vitamin D).

Most sunscreens only block UVB light, they do not block UVA. So by using sunscreen, you enable yourself to stay in the sun longer without getting burned. This increases your exposure to UVA, and it stops your body from making vitamin D from the UVB. The statistical data clearly shows an increase in the incidence of melanoma in step with the increase in sunscreen sales. And there is evidence that other cancers have higher incidence in higher economic and higher educated areas.

How to Use Sunshine to Prevent and Treat Cancer

shutterstock_141527143-2-390x285As I wrote in my last two blogs, getting enough vitamin D is essential to preventing cancer and it is likely greatly helpful in treating cancer. As you know, we can make vitamin D from sunshine. But, not all sunshine is equal when it comes to making vitamin D.

It is only a very small part of sunshine that we can make D with, it is the UVB part of the spectrum. 99% of the UVB from the sun is filtered out by the ozone layer. And when the sun is on the horizon, the amount of atmosphere the light has to travel through filters out the last one percent. So for the first and last several hours of each day, we cannot make vitamin D from the sunlight that reaches the earth’s surface.

Raising D Levels to Prevent and Treat Cancer

In my last blog I talked about the new theory of the cause of cancer, the DINOMIT model. In this model vitamin D deficiency is at the base of this theory. This is good news for cancer prevention because it means that at just a few dollars a month, everyone in the US can afford to reduce their risk for cancer by possibly 70-99%.

The DINOMIT model also has good news for cancer patients seeking treatment because it shows that at ANY stage of ANY cancer, we can halt the growth of the cancer simply by restoring proper intercellular communication by raising blood levels of Vitamin D to optimum 60-80ng/ml. This is done by letting UVB light shine on your skin each day for long enough to tan but not burn, and/or by taking D2 or D3 oral supplements.

New Theory of the Cause of Cancer from UCSD

indexNatural alternative treatment for cancer?

There is a new hypothesis on the cause of malignant cancer. It is called DINOMIT (pronounced dynomite). Natural selection on the cellular level is the basis of the new theory (based on new scientific biochemical discoveries). It goes kinda like this: each cell in our bodies has it’s own drive to survive by harvesting nutrients from it’s environment. On one level, all the cells around it compete for the same nutrients. Cells have a lot of weapons at their disposal for survival because each has a complete copy of instructions to create every function that exists in the entire organism (DNA). The most effective means of competing with your neighbors is for the cell to replicate or clone itself over and over so that it and it’s clones will physically outnumber and thus out-compete it’s neighboring cells for nutrients.

But, since every cell has this ability to clone itself rapidly, each cell then has to try to prevent the cells around it from doing so. The way cells inhibit their neighbors from replicating themselves too much (cancer) is by sending chemical messengers to the cells around them which turn off the genes which enable them to replicate too much. These messengers travel through connections between the cells called gap junctions.
