Avoid the Winter Blues: Light and F.A.S.T.
Light:
Light is an essential nutrient that we all need for health. You truly aren’t healthy without adequate amounts of light shining on your skin each day. This is partly why respiratory viruses make us sick in the winter much more than they do in the summer. We are actually less healthy in the winter because of the lower levels of sunshine (at least at latitudes so far away from the equator as the USA).
For some, light is required not only for health, but to prevent mental illness such as depression and anxiety. Some can receive a diagnosis of S.A.D., or Seasonal Affective Disorder, when light deficient. The cure for SAD is simply to get more exposure to full spectrum light.
There are light boxes designed that one sits in front of each day to treat this condition. Sadly, these light boxes don’t have UV light mixed into them, which is required for the full benefit of light therapy. UV light penetrates the skin just a few millimeters deep, but this is enough to enter the skin capillaries. Here the UV light actually “filters” the blood by killing pathogens and destroying toxins (especially viruses, molds, and the toxins they give off). UVB light also makes vitamin D in the skin, a potent anti-viral and immune modulating agent.
Our medical grade light therapy beds are currently open to patients. We encourage anyone feeling the winter blues or anyone wanting to boost their health for the next few months to contact us about our light therapy special pricing for anyone signed up to this email newsletter. F.A.S.T. (First Aid Stress Tool):
When feeling down due to low light levels, our past emotional traumas can physically cause tension more easily in our body, leading to higher stress levels and over-reactions to disappointing news or events.
FAST is the best way I’ve found to improve your daily emotional hygiene. Done daily, just like brushing your teeth, can prevent hidden cavities of emotional stress from causing you pain in your daily life.
For those who would like some extra help, I am offering a free 15 minute Zoom video chat consultation to catch you up to speed on how you can use FAST in your specific daily life situation. Just reply to this email if interested.
